The New Haven to Providence Capacity Planning Study is an evaluation of alternatives to increase Northeast Corridor (NEC) commuter and intercity passenger rail capacity and performance through Connecticut and Rhode Island with careful consideration of potential impacts on natural and human-built environments.

The study prioritizes robust and inclusive outreach to actively engage stakeholders and communities throughout the study area. Review our Outreach and Engagement Plan.

Study Schedule

Following some earlier preparatory work, the Study began in mid-2026 and will include approximately 24 months of engagement, coordination and analysis.
